MEDIAL: Platforms, Infrastructures, and Analytics

There is a need for a new educational technology research and development (R&D) organization.  Even before the Covid-19 pandemic, the digital landscape for learning had shifted from technology-specific products to platforms operating on the cloud. These platforms connect ubiquitous digital devices at great scale and distance and follow network economic models.  The opportunities for dynamic and flexible learning solutions emerging from these platforms also entail challenges both with the technologies and their social dimensions, including supporting different kinds of students and how the vast amounts of data they produce can lead to better teaching, learning, and systems. When the current health crisis subsides, the landscape from K-12 to higher education will be permanently altered with greater acceptance of digitally mediated solutions and economic pressures to use them.
